Sea of Galilee
GENNESERET (Sea of), also called Lake Kinneret, Sea of Galilee or Lake Tiberius; Lake in northern Palestine, 85 km (53 miles) North of the Dead Sea. Its maximum width is 9 km (5.6 miles) and its length 20 km (12.5 miles). The Jordan River, which flows through it from north to south, connects it to the Dead Sea. Several hot springs can be found in the lake basin. It is 200 to 230 metres (650 to 750 feet) below the Mediterranean sea level. Vestiges of Tiberias, Capernaum and Magdala can be found on its western shore.
