Iona
I0NA or Icolmkill, also known as I or Hy, small island in the Inner Hebrides (Scotland), separated from Mull by a 2 km (1.24 miles) wide channel, called Strait of I or Icolmkill. This island is 5 km (3.11 miles) long and 2.25 km (1.4 miles) wide; Pop. about 300. Uneven and marshy land. Iona was given by the Pict King Bridius, in 563, to St Columba who founded a monastery and a famous college, that flourished until the Protestant Reformation. It is now owned by the Duke of Argyll. Sepulchral ruins cover the island. A number of Scottish, Irish , Norwegians and even French kings were buried there.
