Wildebeest (Daniell)
All Resolutions
Description:
Hand-colored aquatint showing a fierce-looking black wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou) in a landscape of savanna and mountains enhanced with more animals. Like other antelopes, black wildebeests are mammals in the family Bovidae. They are native to southern Africa and differ from blue wildebeests by the shape of their horns, their darker brown or black coats, and the distinctive growth of long dark hair under their belly. Males can weigh upwards of 540 lbs. (245 kg), making them one of the largest antelopes species on Earth.
