The common or true myrtle (Myrtus communis) is a shrub belonging to the family Myrtaceae. It is known for its aromatic properties and in the Greco-Roman antiquity, it was associated with Venus and considered as a symbol of love. Today, it is frequently grown for its ornamental qualities.
