The old world swallowtail (Papilio machaon) is a butterfly in the family Papilionidae. Its color is yellow, with black markings, and it draws its name from the tail-like shape of its hind wings. It is also a large butterfly with a wingspan frequently exceeding 3 in (80 mm).
