All Resolutions

Description:

A shop in Paris between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. This illustration shows how a system of folding wooden shutters could be used to display goods, or to isolate the shop from the street after closing time. According to Viollet-le-Duc, up to the late fourteenth century, shops weren’t usually separated by a front window and had direct access to the street.
