Description:

Great grey shrike (Lanius excubitor) depicted in a wintry landscape, perched on a branch of a thorny shrub bearing red berries. The great grey shrike is a passerine bird in the family Laniidae, found in the colder regions of the Northern Hemisphere, although it usually migrates to temperate areas for the winter. It feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects. The great grey shrike has the remarkable habit of storing uneaten prey on thorns or spikes found on its territory.
