Description:

Hand-colored lithograph showing the white flower and the leaves of Gardenia jasminoides var. fortuneana. Formerly known by its synonym Gardenia florida, G. jasminoides is an evergreen shrub in the family Rubiaceae native to Asia. This variety was introduced to the United Kingdom by Robert Fortune and is mentioned as follows in the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society of London:[1]

G. f. Fortuneana fl. pl. was brought to the Royal Society from China. It bears large white blooms like Camellia alba plena, but is seldom seen now.
