Description:

Illustration showing showing a tropical two-wing flyingfish (exocoetus volitans) as seen from the side skimming the sea. The tropical two-wing flyingfish belongs to the family Exocoetidae and is commonly found in warm waters throughout the world. Like the other members of this family, it has winglike, rigid fins, which allow it to fly, or, more accurately, to glide airborne on distances that can reach 600 ft (180 m).

The caption reads in the original French: Exocet commun d’Europe (Exocetus volitans).
