Description:
Collection of eerie, dreamlike fear-inducing visions, such as disproportionate hooded skulls smirking in a graveyard, a man summoned to a sword duel, a lecherous man assaulting a woman in her boudoir, a soldier at the war, a tooth extraction, etc.
The caption reads in the original French: La peur ! qui représente tantost les bisaïeuls sortis du tombeau enveloppez de leur suaire, tantost des loups-garous, des lutins et des chimères... (Montaigne).
