Botanical steel engraving showing Echinocereus dasyacanthus, also known as the hairy hedgehog cactus, a species of cactus native to Mexico and the United States where it grows in arid and desert environments. The stems of the plant are cylindrical and covered in dense, bristly spines, giving the plant its common name. it produces pink or red flowers in the spring and summer.
