The collier.

Download smaller file(Plate 3.)

Description:

Hand-colored aquatint showing a coal miner returning from his work, smoking a pipe, and carrying a basket and a walking stick. The mining plant is visible on a height in the background, as is, closer to the collier, a steam locomotive pulling wagons. This is the first known printed representation of a steam locomotive on rails, Salamanca, built in 1812 by Matthew Murray, after a design for rack propulsion by John Blenkinsop.
