Description:

A boy is seen from the side sitting at a table and drawing with great attention from a picture in a book placed upright in front of him. The picture the boy is copying is an etching by Jean-Jacques Flipart after a painting by Jean-Baptiste Chardin titled Young Student Drawing (Le jeune élève dessinant).

The caption reads in the original French: Le copiste de Chardin.
